I got tired of all my hair hanging on my back nad neck. So I grabbed a good portion of my hair and I twisted like I was wringing it out. I kept twisting until I reached the bottom. Then I twirled it around its self and pinned it with bobbie pins. It only took about 5-6 bobbie pins. I purposly put it to the side to give it some flare. After I was done I liked it. It took some of the hair off my back and it was cute! As you can see I still had quite a bit of hair still hanging down though. My Bun was huge but cute. LOL I created this in about 5 min. I do my best work when I don't think about it and just do it.

Braid-out

This is a braid out I did around October of 2011. I never braid my hair right after washing. I wait until it is completely dry then I spray it with water as I braid because it cuts down on the drying time. I only use water for braid outs. With this braid out I braided my hair fairly large to get a more wavy look

My daughter braided my hair for a crinkle style but she did such a good job I kept it in and wore it a couple of days. I would not have taken it down so quicklly but I wanted a more sophisticated style for Christmas day which is the photo with the red blouse on. Sorry that one is dark. I hope everyone had a great Christmas and my hope is also that everyone has a blessed and wonderful new years. :-)

This is the third day after the pipe cleaners were taken out. It really just kept getting better. I would definately do it again. I kept them in for about a week and an half. I could have went longer but I needed to wash my hair. The curls just kept falling and looking like waves. I really enjoyed the style. Thanks to the reader of my blog that suggested pipe cleaners. At this point I am not going to cut my locks. I seriously thought about it one day and it hit me as to what I would do with my hair if I did not have locks. Straight styles are out of the question. So I would definately still be natural. The fact that I would have to cut my hair back down to a teeny weeny afro was another reason I decided to wait. LOL One day I will but not right now. In a previous post I had mentioned that I was getting a little bored with the length of my hair and that I was considering cutting my locks out. Someone commented that I should try pipe cleaners as a sytle option. Well I did and these pics are the result. I wore the pipe cleaners for a couple of days and then I took them out. The pics really don't do the style justice. I really liked it and received a lot of compliments. In my next post I will show pics of what it looked like when I took them out.

Thinking of cutting them off. It will be five years this November and I am seriously considering it. Not sure yet, but maybe. I will never to go back straight but I will not have locks. Have not made my mind up yet though. It's just one of those things when it's time for a new beginning. IF and I do mean if I do, it will be one of the hardest things I've done in my life. My locks are a part of me. Decisions, decisions!!!?????

PS Does anyone know of a good natural stylist in the Detroit area?

I put my hair in a high ponytail and tucked it under in the back securing it with bobby pins. It literally only takes about 5-10 minutes to do. And it only takes that long cause I like a smoothe bun. I like it. I can see me wearing this a lot this summer cause it is off my neck. I was all dolled up for a date with hubby.......

But this is how I usually wear my hair. I keep saying that after my re-tights I am going to give myself a wet set so that I can have a little style to my hair on a daily basis but it never happens. LOL

This is me back in December of 2010. I had wet set my hair on sponge rollers and got under the dryer. Then I put it up in this up do. I literally just grabbed some hair and started pinning it up with bobbie pins. I liked the end result. More pics to come of my hair in 2011 As always stay blessed! :-)

Rocking my highlights! I love them and all but I will say that it changed the way my hair felt. It was harder! It is better now that I have been deep conditioning it and everything but at first I was thinking....."What have I done!" One thing that I stumbled on that REALLY helped was a steam suana. My hair loved it! And it really helped it get on the road to being back the way it was before the color. I wish I had access to one more often. Aahhh the pains of being beautiful! LOL! What change you say? Sista girl done went off and got hightlights! I like them but I guess I gotta get used to them. Sometimes I look at them and like them. Other times I look at them and think I need more in certain areas or wish they were all the same color. Like them or not here they are right?! LOL! Just a quick update on my hair. Still lovin my locks. I rock curls sometimes but for the most part I wear my hair in a half pony or full pony. In the pics I am wearing the half pony. Sometimes the full pony pulls on my hair line too much so I just put the front part in a pony to get it off my face. I wear it free style a lot too. My ends still have the color that I put in my hair right before I got locks. The rest of my hair has a reddish brown rinse that I put in to cover the gray, but it is old and in need of some re-freshing. I still only wash my hair and apply a mixture of water and a small amount of oil to my hair everyday. Other than that I do nothing. Except for the occasional wet set for curls. My sisterlock consultant is really one of the best in the Detroit area. Her name is Erica Taylor and the girl is bad! She is everything in a consultant that I have read about in the blogs. I was beginning to wonder if I would ever find a consultant that is a friend as well as a consultant. When I am in her shop we talk, laugh and encourage each other. And to top it off she knows her stuff when it comes to sisterlocks! That is why my hair looks as well as it does! Since my initial installation I have had 3 consultants before I could find the right fit. But I am home to stay with Ericka! She makes my hair look so good! I have been with Ericka for the past two years. These are pics of my hair as of yesterday. My last re-tightening was approximately 2 weeks ago. I have a full schedule and there is just not enough time in the day to make a post but I was determined to do it today! LOL! I look really tired in these photos because I AM! LOL! (focus on the hair) I will post more after I re-fresh my color. Have a wonderful rest of July and be blessed. :-)

My Youngest Re-tightening Client

Although I have not put in a full installation since taking the Sisterlocks class, I have been keeping my skills sharp by doing re-tightings. Below is my youngest client. She was 4 when I first started her. But in the 5 months that I have been doing her hair she has turned 5. With her mother's permission I decided to showcase her on my blog. Introducing, Ms. Nataliea! Isn't she just the cutest!

She has soft hair that crawls, but it is coming right along. I think everyone that I know with sisterlocks had their hair lock before mine did. If my memory is correct, I believe her locks are about a year. I did not start locking until after 2 years. This is us after 6 hours of re-tightening. It takes a bit longer because of many, many,many breaks and that fact that she is really tender headed. She is a joy though. You just have to love her! And hear locks are gorgeous!

Now does my hair really look like zillions! I mean maybe from afar, but certainly not up close. At least not to me! I get that sooo much. "Oh I thought you had zillions" Say what?!! What really got me was my boss that I have worked with for 14 years told me that he thought my hair was braid extensions. I was like, surely you jest. Right?! He was like no, I thought you had braids. Now keep in mind that he has been seeing my hair every since I got them put in. Just goes to show how much attention he is paying my hair. What do I expect...... he is a man right? But still lately I have been getting that a lot. Even from women. I patiently explain the real deal but I am like come on! My hair does NOT look like zillions!!!!! I did just recently get a grooming but darn tooting I still think my hair looks like sister locks! Maybe when more of my ends close I will get more lock respect. Aarrrgghhh! Sometimes it gets to me cause I know the patience it took to get where I am today. I want my lock respect! LOL! Thanks for listening and letting me vent. I feel better now.

Handy Tool

I just love this little jobby. Nooo it is not what you think. I did not color my hair. However, I did find that this is really great for shampooing. I used to use the spray bottle, but I found that my hand got tired of squeezing the sprayer and the sprayer always got stuck. After all that then it would end up breaking on me. This bottle allows me to target the shampoo exactly where I want it. I can take it all the way down to the scalp or squirt it directly on the locks. I found it to be so much easier. I love it, so I thought I would share.

28 Months

Well it has been a long time. I have not had the opportunity to post because my computer is ancient and I need to up grade. I am using my friends computer right now. I have been able to look at everyone else's post. So good to see everyone doing well and their hair looking fab! Just wanted to post some pics and keep you guys updated on my progress. Not much has changed. I did put a rinse in my hair a couple of months ago, so my ends are red now instead of golden brown. But it did nothing for the gray. LOL! And my hair has grown a bit. The Sisterlock Training Class, Learning & Laughter

Well I took the Sisterlock Consultant Training class and guess who helped teach the class 2 out of the 4 days that I was there........

That's right! Dr. Cornwell herself! This women has got to be one of the most down to earth, funny, intellectual people that I have ever met. She is really cool and so funny!

Dr Cornwell's sisters and niece helped teach the class as well and they all have a wonderful sense of humor and made the class so enjoyable. I felt so privileged to be taught by the originator of Sisterlocks and her family. I learned so much.

It was so many different kinds of Sisterlocks there. There were colored locks........

All of the locks were beautiful and original.

During the four days, friends were made and so much was learned. It was really a fantastic experience that allowed me to learn not only the Sisterlock method but so so much more!

18 &19 Months, Curls, Crinkles, & My Lovely Sisterlocks

Hey sisterlock fam! Its been a little while. Just wanted to show you pics of what?!..........My hair of course. LOL! Everything is going pretty good with my locks. They are locking more each month. My growth seems to be stunted because of the locking process so my hair pretty much looks the same length wise. But to me it looks more like locks instead of little braids now days. Which I am happy with. The back of my hair is fully locked but the front from the ear forward is still in the locking process. I am taking the Sisterlock class next week so I will be able to at least touch up the areas that are still locking and become really loose and not have to wait until my retightening appointment. I think that will help a lot. I am still not sure if I am going to be a DIYer. My hope is to become certified and do other peoples hair. Then sit back and watch them enjoy their hair as much as I do since I sisterlocked my hair. Choosenvessel hipped me to the lavender water on her blog and let me tell you, I love the stuff. It makes my hair smell heavenly. My hair is so bouncy and full of body. I do nothing but wash with sisterlocks starter shampoo twice a month, deep condition once a month with sisterlocks conditioner and lightly spritz with water & oil mixture everyday. I have only tried Carol's daughter Tui Hair oil and the sisterlock brand oil. I like them both. I always dilute the oil with water though. FYI, I do not mix the lavender water with oil. I use that alone. So some days water is all I use. To style my hair in updo's hair pins are my best friend. It is so easy. Most of my up do's are just by me throwing my hair up and pinning. Then I will look in the mirror and say "hey not bad" Well enough talk and on to the pics of styles and even some freestyling. I missed a couple of months blogging, but I still took pics. So here are some pics from my 18th and 19th month. I could not get the slide show to post simutaneously with this so the slide show is in the post below.

PS The 2nd day wet set is after I played tennis and was sweating my behind off. My curls were still on point. I love sisterlocks!!!

Lint, My Favorite Throw & Sisterlocks

Well, I have a bit of a dilemma. I have a throw that I absolutely love. It is so soft and keeps you warm but not too hot. Everyday after a long day at work and school I curl up with it and read or look at TV right before I go to sleep. But to my dismay I was informed by my consultant that it leaves red lint in my locks! I had not noticed before, but after she told me I started to notice the red lint.

What is a girl to do. I mean look how comfy I look. I have become quite fond of this throw. To the point my family teases me. I don't care about their little comments, but I do care about my Sisterlocks! I just had to blog about this cause I needed to get it off my chest and it involved my Sisterlocks. My choice is this, either I am going to have to renounce my favorite throw or wear one of those hideous non sexy bonnets to bed. Sexy for the DH is very important. Mmmm.......it looks like good bye comfy throw :'-( Hey maybe I will be able to find a black one!!! Thanks for listening.

Beauty, Individuality & Sisterlocked Sisters

My Sisterlocked Sister met me for after work drinks. While we were out I took pics of her hair. With her permission I have posted her pics for your viewing pleasure. I will admit it......I have a little lock envy going on here! LOL! I mean just look at her perfect uniform locks! It is hard to believe that our lock anniversaries are only 1 month apart. She was locked in Oct. 06, me in Nov. 06 and our hair was pretty much the same length. Just goes to show you how different every body's locks are. That is what I love about Sisterlocks. They give you your own individual style and beauty.

Just take a look at my hair on the same day.

It is longer, no way near as uniform. Most of my ends are still loose where nearly all of hers are closed. Gosh it is taking my hair so long to lock. That is one of the things I love about her hair, it locked much quicker than mine. But you know I must admit that I love the differences. I love my locks and I love hers too. Both are beautiful to me.
I had a ball hanging out with my Sisterlocked Sister. We had fun, fun, fun!

18 Months & The Ponytail Set

I tried the pony tail set that Salkis Re demonstrated.

I liked it. It turned out pretty good. It definitely cut the drying time way down. I only stayed under the dryer for about 45 min. My hair is fairly thick so I usually have to stay under the dryer about a hour and a half when I use the perm rods and 2 hours with soft spikes. The ones you see hanging off the side are short locks that kept coming out of the ponytail so I just rolled them up. I think it will look better once my hair grows a little more.
What I liked most about it is that it gave it the look that usually takes 2 days for the curls to fall. I had curls but they were not too tight. I will definitely be doing this again. What a time saver!! Thanks Salkis Re!! It seems like my hair was longer last month. I believe that it is shrinking which is good. Cause I believe that means it is finally locking more. I believe that only about 70% of my hair is locked.

Tomoka Twist & The Peace Lilly

They are both so pretty to me!! The Tomoka Twist is the biggity bomb! I absolutely love it!! The pics really do not do it justice. It has little rings around the ornaments. So it looks so rich to me. Like a real piece of jewelry in my hair. I love silver so when I saw she had a silver one I just had to have it. I love my peace lilly as well. It sits in my kitchen. I really do not have a green thumb and I almost killed it last year, so to see the pretty blooms warms my heart. I hope you enjoy the pics of it as much as I do when I come home and look at it everyday. May 1st was my 18 month anniversary but there is not much difference in my hair. Aw snap! One side of my hair is considerably shorter than the other side! Just take a look at the pics below. I know why. I did it to myself. When my locs were in their baby stages I had stringy ends on just one side because I decided to dye my hair before I got it Sisterlocked. The dye changed the texture of my hair only in certain spots. I was livid! I had cut off all my permed hair and waited until I had enough hair to Sisterlock and the day before I was to get the Sisterlocks the bad dye job changed my texture. I called my consultant almost in tears. She said not to worry and that I could still get my locks I got my locks and they looked great except for one side had stringy ends. I took it as long as I could, but then I could not stand it any more. It seemed harmless at the time so I just snipped them off. It did not seem like it would make that much difference. That is what I get for being scissor happy. I guess I will have to even it out. Oh well....it seems as if I still have not learned my lesson. LOL! The only thing I can say about this is........wait before you dye. Make sure your hair is ready. Or at least get it professionally done. Yes I did the bad dye job myself. My consultant teases me. She calls it the DIE job! Although I do look at blaqkofi and sister-in-locks and have color envy. I just know that my hair texture requires me to be patient and wait. Heck,I am almost 16mo. locked and I am still braiding and banding.

1. I am a left handed middle child. Don't worry, I am still relatively normal. LOL!

4. My first automatic car was in 1997. I love manual cars. They are sporty, cost less and are usually more fuel efficient. The only reason I have an automatic now is because after my second child my knees started acting up on me. And the clutch was just aggravating the situation.
5. An email was circulated that instructed my friends and family to describe me in one word. Some said funny and some real. No one used any other words but those two. I was like wow........interesting. And true.
6. I have excellent intuition. I do not know why. My husband thinks it is amazing. I told him I think it is partly a gift and partly because I listen and am very aware of my surroundings.

Greetings everyone. Hope this Friday finds you happy in spirit and well in health. Just wanted to post pics of.........MY HAIR!! I must say that I love my sisterlocks.
They have brought me a freedom that I did not deem possible regarding loving how my hair looks and the low maintenance to acheive that look. My hair moves and is soft and shakeable.:-)

I am getting better at self portraits. Hope these show some texture and capture how my hair looks in person. Some of these came out pretty interesting.

In the above photo bucket was just fooling around with my camera. This is me currently(just realized I am 14 months not 13). My hair looks a little drawn up. Probably because I just washed it and had it retightened over the weekend. Some days my hair looks longer. Check out my Indianapolis T-shirt. I am in Detroit via Indianapolis. That is where I was born and raised. My home town prompted my blog name. Man it is hard to take decent pics of your self. Guess I will have to recruite my fam to help me. Cause in some of these pics I look funny. LOL!!!

11 month & 1 year anniversary

Here we are months month 11 and my 1 year mark. Unfortunately I only have one pic of me at my 1 year mark and it isn't even a good one. It is me in the burgundy blouse. My lock anniversary is Nov. 1, 2006. The pic was taken Thanksgiving 2007. The other pics were taken during my birthday, which was October, 2007. The Thanksgiving pic is my famous braid out. I wore that a lot once my hair started growing and I had some curly q's on my ends and some ends were doing their own thing. The braid out made it look more uniform. My birthday hairdo is a rod set with water and lotta body. Then I got under the dryer for about 30 minutes. I am currently 13 months. I plan to post current pics of me as soon as I get my camera back from my daughter. Until then blessings and good cheer!

9th & 10th months

This is me around the 9th and 10th months. I was finally able to put my hair in a sort of puff pony tail. And of course I was still doing the braid out thing. Wash braid hair in 4 french braids to the back let dry (if in a hurry, get under dryer for about 15 minutes) then finger comb and go. The older this style got, the better it would look.

7th & 8th Months

These pics are of around 7th and 8th months. Top pics in black is a braid out. I washed it the day before my retightening and did about 4 french braids to the back. Took them down and got the retightening and this is how it turned out. The bottom pics in lavender I was free styling. I still had quite a few of the curly q's on my ends so I just let them be. I was digging it. Wake up, shake out and I was out the door! Gotta love it. :-)

Here I am with more styles. I did a roller set. I needed to finger through it more. The next day it looked better. I used the hard rollers with the clamp on fasteners. I soon came to realize that those rollers are not so good for locks. They left holes in some of my locks and my consultant had to fix them. I currently use rods and soft spikes to obtain curls. I believe I was about 8 or 9 months locked here.

Up until this point I am following the directions of my consultant. I wash my hair with sister locks starter shampoo and that is pretty much it. I am still braiding and banding. It is amazing how my hair makes it own natural oil. Especially when I massage the scalp. Well I am up to the 6th month of my chronological preview of my SL's I will post again soon to bring you all the way up until now (which is 13 months) I hope these pics and the small amount of info that I have given helps someone out. I Can not say enough good things about SL's. My kids tease me and tell me that they can not believe that I like my hair. When I had permed styles I hardly ever liked my hair. Now I just love it. 5th & 6th Months

Above are pics of around 5th and 6th month. My hair regiment is easy......do nothing. Spritz with water in the morning or just let the shower steam let the bed hair fall naturally. At this point I did start to experiment with styles. The pics in the stripped shirt is a rod set. I filled a spray bottle with 3/4 water and 1/4 lotta body(got that tip from BlaqKofi) Sprayed then rolled with rods. Set under the dryer for about 20 min. and walla!

2nd and 3rd Months

When I first started my locks I was doing a 1/2 marathon. It really helped that I did not have to worry about my hair. Literally the only thing I did was wash and go! (of course I had to braid and band) LOL! Above are pics of around my 2nd and 3rd months. In the black is before retightening and the red is after. I think this was when my hair went through looking like it was swollen. I loved it!!! My hair always did grow fast but SL's really made it take off! Can you tell.......my consultant is sooooo talented! Go Paulette!!!

I am new to this blog thing. But I feel as if I know many of you. I finally created my own blog so that I can talk and share. It really was not as time consuming as I thought. I have been on loc down for 13 months now. I plan to post my journey soon. This is my first post and of course I am running out the door. I just wanted to say that BlaqKofi is the person that convinced me to get sister locks. She gave so much info and her hair is slammin! She seems so nice and down to earth as well as many other bloggers I have viewed. I have 3 Brunsli ties already and plan to get a few of the Tomoka Twist real soon. I am excited about my blog and hope to gain friends and more info regarding Sisterlocks as well as other topics. Well I have to go. Chat with you soon.
